Our daily patient handover may start like any other – a MI, a head injury, a case of dengue fever and a hip fracture but the clinical decision making for these patients when working at International SOS is where it gets a little different... 

This is a Fixed-term contract role Starting ASAP in mid-January until March with an opportunity to extend or turn into permanent 

The Corporate Nurse Advisor works collaboratively with the International SOS team of Doctors, Nurses, logistical experts through our 26 Assistance Centres, 65 international medical clinics and verified global health care network of 90, 000 providers.

The Corporate Nurse Advisor is required to perform a robust telephonic medical assessment of client employees’ through the collection of medical, logistical and collateral histories pertaining to the medical event / incident pertaining to COVID-19.

This medical assessment is used to provide tailored and relevant medical advice, referrals and recommendations that supports our clients employees in, but not limited to, patient education regarding COVID-19, assessment and referral for COVID-19 testing, advice and education on isolation and quarantine, medical assessment follow up and contact tracing.

The primary scope of work at present is to support  our clients with the management of their employee

COVID-19 programs. We are currently seeking registered nurses to support this service delivery and our daily operations which includes but is not limited to:

  • Outreach to employees who have been informed they have come in to contact with a positive COVID-19 case
  • Symptomatic employees who require testing and follow up
  • Asymptomatic employees who may require further advice based on criteria set out by public health departments and/or the client specifically
  • Return to work instructions, not including return to work confirmation
  • Advice, recommendations and escalation of information back to the employees’ HR department

The core responsibilities of this role is:

Medical assessment and advice:

  • To perform a telephonic triage of clients based in international settings with careful consideration
  • Conduct a critical analysis of the client’s requests for assistance to ensure their individual health and COVID-19 public health and local jurisdiction advice needs are met and actively identifying opportunities to provide a holistic value-added service.
  • Provide evidence-based medical direction for the management of their presenting condition.
  • Keep up to date with rapidly changing health trends, endemic health risks, pandemics and their impact on local health infrastructure.
  • Become familiar and highly competent in navigating internal and external public health resources to provide the most tailored advice for clients.
  • Perform a health needs assessment for clients to determine the availability of the required health resources to support their fitness for work.
  • Work closely with the International SOS Medical Information & Analysis team and Security experts to provide tailored solutions. 

Medical Case Management:

  • Monitor and prioritise caseloads throughout the day to ensure appropriate case direction and handling, clinical safety, medical appropriateness and any client specific considerations.
  • To be responsible for the effective and efficient medical management of cases, meeting contractual deliverables and adhering to internal policies and procedures. 
  • To liaise and collaborate with medical and operational staff to facilitate the efficient running of medical assistance cases.

General: 

  • Promote and reinforce the need for evidence-based medical advice and decision making with clear documentation of the information and source. 
  • Responsible for ensuring that there is an appropriate medical handover of cases at the beginning/end of each shift.
  • Responsible for preparing client specific reporting to reflect active case management and International SOS recommendations.
  • Undertake responsibility for medical information released from the Assistance Centre to ensure consent and confidentiality are maintained in accordance with GDPR

Promotion of International SOS Services:

  • Ensure a high level of professionalism at all times when dealing with clients.
  • To positively promote international SOS to other organisations and clients.
  • Assist with International SOS recruitment and branding events to identify suitable potential staff and promote the International SOS brand for recruitment and client facing events.

Miscellaneous:  

  • To be present in the London Assistance Centre during scheduled shift hours and participate in at least one daily transmission.
  • Work flexible hours as appropriate to the needs of the post.
  • To develop progressive expertise to support and train your medical colleagues as a coach and mentor.
  • To recognise limitations and areas for self-development through reflection.  To be responsible for all actions and decisions made, knowing when to defer and escalate to senior members of the medical team.

Qualifications

Who we are looking for:

  • Registered General Nurse (must be currently UK  registered)
  • Good written and spoken English language
  • Triage and previous case management work
  • Public Health and/or Travel Health Degree desirable, not essential
  • High level of consolidated experience in acute care – emergency medicine and intensive care skills experienced preferred
  • Experience in Humanitarian or NGO work desirable
