NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) has designed NHS Scotland Assure to improve the management of risk in new builds and refurbishment projects across NHS Scotland. The new service will be a multi-disciplinary team with subject matter experts in the fields of infection prevention and control, hard and soft facilities and building management. It will have oversight for the design, construction, and maintenance of major infrastructure developments within the NHS. It will be a quality management system for the healthcare built environment. NHS Scotland Assure will strengthen infection prevention and control in the built environment and play a crucial guidance role regarding incidents and outbreaks across health and social care.

As part of an exciting forthcoming NSS Service to increase patient safety levels in the healthcare built environment, we are looking for three Senior Nurses Infection Prevention and Control to assume operational accountability and responsibility for the elements of service delivery.

The post holders will provide guidance and support by offering expert opinion and professional advice, provide expert knowledge to support the development of all staff, and work collaboratively across boundaries to develop and raise awareness of relevant policies and guidelines and influence change at a local and national level.

The post holders will sit within Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland, part of NSS, working in partnership to deliver Health Protection services which enable and support a safer and healthier Scotland.

The work of ARHAI Scotland is encompassed in five Health Protection Programmes ICBED (Infection Control in Built Environment & Decontamination), NPGO (National Policies, Guidance and Outbreaks), CARHAI (Community Antimicrobial Resistance & Healthcare-Associated Infection), Scottish Surveillance of HAI Programme (SSHAIP) and Scottish One Health Antimicrobial Use and Antimicrobial Resistance (SONAAR).

ARHAI leads and supports efforts to prevent healthcare-associated infection by means of guidance development, surveillance, operational support and training, covering areas such as incident and outbreak management, decontamination, the built environment, research and infection prevention and control expertise.

Are you a first level registered nurse with an infection prevention and control qualification? Do you have the relevant clinical expertise, the experience of leadership and innovation within this setting?

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and organisations skills, someone who can prioritise, assess and decision make, someone who is proactive, innovative and enthusiastic.

Knowledge of ARHAI Scotland would be advantageous. It is vital that you demonstrate the NSS values of working with respect and care, openness and integrity.

This is a National post. The post is flexible and will be hosted by ARHAI Scotland. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic working from home may be required.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure Scotland check.

Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Candidates must have current NMC registration at the time of applying.
