At Nuffield Health Brighton Hospital, we work with leading medical and surgical consultants to provide first-class treatments and high standards of care for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of medical and surgical conditions using the latest facilities and technology. We take pride in delivering an excellent standard of patient care to both private patients and the NHS. Our facilities include 44 purpose built en-suite rooms, 3 operating theatres plus 1 endoscopy theatre. Other facilities include physiotherapy and a diagnostic department. We are located in Woodingdean, on the east side of Brighton with easy access by rail and road, including free parking.

The opportunity


We are looking for someone to take an active role in leading a well-established efficient and dynamic team.

As our Clinical Ward Sister you will:

Oversee care delivery and management in the department, ensuring that all team members treat patients, families, friends and representatives with kindness, dignity, respect and compassion and support them to cope emotionally with their care, treatment or condition.

Support the Ward Manager in setting high standards, maintaining staff competence and ensuring delivery of a high quality and safe service.

Manage a team - performing 1:1's and appraisals.

Act as a role model, leading, coaching and mentoring staff, and promoting the adoption of evidence-based and innovative practices e.g. WHO Checklist, Stop before you block, Stop before you implant.

Be part of the manager on-call rota to ensure business continuity out of hours. .


The person.


To succeed as a Clinical Ward Sister in our Brighton Hospital you will need:

Significant post-registration experience

Proven clinical leadership and team supervision skills.

IT literacy with patient information systems, clinical information systems, incident management systems, and the MS Office suite.

Competency in clinical skills related our specialties.

Excellent communicator (verbal and written) with an ability to positively influence colleagues and behaviours.

Key information about the role.

Working a combination of Clinical shifts (including early/late/weekend shifts) and management days you will be responsible, along with the other Ward Sisters, for the Clinical leadership of the Ward staff -looking after 30 in-patient rooms and 10 Day case rooms.

You will help set and maintain a high standard of Clinical Care on the Wards

You will deputise for the Ward Manager - including the management of rotas, payroll issues and HR cases when required

Salary - Dependent on experience

Full time, 37.5 Hours a week

Location - Brighton Hospital
