A rare opportunity has arisen for a Senior Nurse to join a national team responsible for planning Pandemic responses.

SCAS is the NHSE and PHE partner in providing national pandemic responses to flu and Covid-19.

Due to the planned retirement of the current Clinical Assurance Director, we are recruiting for a Deputy Clinical Assurance Director for this service. We plan for this role to develop so that the incumbent can take over from the Clinical Assurance Director when they retire.

You will be required to be part of the national team in both the planning (dormancy) stage and active mobilisation (delivery phase). The national Pandemic Team plan, design and then mobilise national response to a pandemic in support of PHE and NHSE. During dormancy the team revise and test the plans and build in any additional functions required. During active pandemic phases the team mobilises and manages the services and develops appropriate services and response as the pandemic needs evolve.

As Deputy Director of Clinical Assurance, you will be responsible for supporting the Clinical Assurance Director in the development and maintenance of a clinical governance framework. You will provide clinical guidance and leadership across live services (CRS, CCAS, Vaccine Help and Booking line and Vaccine Status Service) and in dormancy.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work with teams based all over the UK and must be able to travel and drive to these locations when required. The base will be negotiated but post holder must be able to travel to South Central Ambulance Service HQ in Bicester and the service centre in Rotherham. However, much of the work will be able to be delivered remotely and from home during active pandemic.

This role is Banded at 8B

All candidates should have the following:

  • Registered Clinical qualification with NMC/HCPC
  • Senior management experience in a wide range of clinical and remote management settings such as NHS111, Out of Hours Services, NHS Direct or similar large-scale organisations delivering clinical assessment and advice remotely.
  • Experience of remote assessment of patients within a call Centre environment.
  • Experience of senior leadership reporting to board level or equivalent
  • Responsibility for delivering Clinical Governance at a senior level in an NHS organisation
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of NHS Clinical Governance
  • Experience and understanding of Clinical decision support systems and their use and application in remote assessment
