We are looking for a PoCT & Transfusion Lead to join the team at our brand-new London Nuffield Barts Hospital, due to open in late 2021.

Due to the clinical specialisms planned for the new hospital, we will require staff from a variety of backgrounds to ensure a genuinely exceptional client experience throughout the hospital. This will include those with some clinical, technical or laboratory background to support the Ward and Critical Care teams with day to day management, QA testing and Audit of desk-top Near Patient testing devices as well as co-ordination of the blood and blood product delivery service with the local NHS Trust.

We are happy to consider both full-time and part-time applications, as well as those for weekend work.

You will be expected to support the management and calibration of several desk-top test devices such as Urinalysis, blood glucose analysers, blood gas analysers, ACT Machines and Haemocue machines, and to participate in in-service training of new users to the hospital team, maintaining any necessary competency training records. In addition to these medical devices, you will also take a lead in appropriate checks and temperature logs for the storage of any blood or blood products within the hospital blood fridge with return of any unused products to the NHS in accordance with SHOT guidelines and hospital policy.

Formal qualification is not strictly necessary, but previous experience in a care assistant, lab technician or phlebotomy type role would be an advantage. On-site training will be provided as required. Candidates must be computer literate as we will use an electronic patient record system as well as requiring the successful candidate to be able to maintain & audit equipment test logs.

Desirable Qualifications:-

  • Registration with the National Association of Phlebotomists

  • NVQ 2/ONC equivalent in an appropriate scientific discipline such as laboratory technician or associated technical activities.

The new hospital will consist of:

* 48 inpatient and day case bedrooms

* 28 consultation rooms

* Three digital operating theatres

* Cardiac catheterisation lab

* Specialist intensive care beds

* 8 bay Oncology day unit

* Endoscopy and minor ops theatre

* Full diagnostic imaging suite including MRI, CT, ultrasound, mammography and general X-ray
