Role Overview:

As a Paediatric Senior Staff Nurse you’ll be working as part of a close-knit highly experienced Children and Young People outpatients team.  With 8 consultation rooms you will co-ordinate the  busy outpatient department effectively to ensure safe and consistent care is delivered to children and their families. Specialisms available in the paediatric outpatients department include: ENT, general surgery, general paediatrics, orthopaedics, allergies, speech and language therapy, endocrinology, ophthalmology and more.

You’ll be a caring and compassionate nurse who will ensure delivering a high standard of care to our patients.

What you’ll do:

  • Work in accordance with NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) guidelines.
  • Prioritise patient care needs, be able to spot an unwell child and complete a comprehensive assessment and escalate according.
  • Assist the Sister/Charge Nurse with operational requirements in the delivery of a consistent, safe service in all aspects of the patient journey whilst instilling a culture of customer service throughout the nursing team.
  • Deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with all Consultants.
  • Provide consistent, clear, clinical and professional leadership and act as a mentor for all staff demonstrating professional awareness and accountability.
  • Engage in and promote multi-disciplinary teamwork alongside: Specialist Doctors, nurses, interpreters and therapists.
  • Proactively lead on departmental audits and strategically make recommendations to the continue service development projects and governance compliance.
  • Act at all times as the patient advocate.

What you’ll bring?

  • NMC Registration – Child
  • Senior RGN with demonstrable experience working as a Nurse in Charge in a similar paediatric department
  • Mentorship certificate
  • Phlebotomy competency
  • IV competency
  • PEWs Competency
  • Safeguarding knowledge
  • PILS is essential, EPALS preferred
  • Immunisation experience preferred – but training provided
  • Managerial experience would be desirable   
  • Evidence of ongoing education would be desirable
  • A working knowledge of emergency policies including Resuscitation guidelines
  • Desire and ambition to drive quality improvements in line with Care Quality Commission (CQC) guidance
