Our facilities include 49 en-suite patient bedrooms, 4 operating theatres, acute dependency and oncology units. We've been awarded the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark for cancer care. Our site is shared with an NHS Trust hospital, giving us access to their facilities. The working atmosphere is highly professional and stimulating, yet friendly and collaborative like that of a large family unit.

Our Macmillan sponsored unit accommodates around 25 patients at a time and treats a variety of cancers including Breast, Cervical, Ovarian, Pancreatic, Colorectal and Prostate. The individual will need excellent communication skills to network and interact with staff and colleagues at all levels. You will work within a team of skilled chemotherapy nurses as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team and provide continuity of support to patients throughout the cancer pathway. You will also take the lead on Survivorship services for patients following the end of their cancer treatment.

We work with leading Consultants to offer a range of services and treatments for preventing, diagnosing and treating a wide array of medical conditions and offer a wide range of complex surgery and services. Our care is matron led and we are proud to have received a "good" rating from the health care regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Nuffield Health Guildford provides high-quality healthcare for the people of Guildford and its surrounding areas. The hospital is easily accessible from the A3 or M25 and we are located about 1.5 miles from Guildford town

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Independently manage own caseload & responsible for the care and management of patients with life limiting illnesses including the provision of specialist symptom control, social, emotional and spiritual care for the patient and family.
  • Ensure continual optimal care for inpatients, outpatients and their families.
  • Sharing of expert knowledge and training other members of staff
  • Facilitate and support healthcare teams to implement evidence-based practice, and will contribute to the development of the Palliative and EOL Care Services.
  • Development of policies, protocols, and guidelines for palliative care patients and ensuring they are implemented
  • Initiate and audit the clinical effectiveness of the palliative care service.

Skills & Experience

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC pin.
  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care Nursing or equivalent, and/or evidence of Masters level learning.
  • Considerable post registration experience in an acute hospital within an oncology setting with experience in palliative care or area of relevance.
  • Clinical leadership qualities, including team working and team building skills, with excellent communication & organisational skills, and the ability to problem solve in all types of situations.
  • Level 2 Psychological Care Training / Advanced communication skills and systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) course are desirable.
