We are looking for talented Band 5 and Band 6 critical care nurses.

Band 5 Staff Nurse in Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU)

We are recruiting for experienced band 5 nurses to join our world class Adult Cardiac Critical Care Unit at St Barts Hospital. You will have the opportunity to rotate through three critical care units that care for varying groups of patients, Post op cardiothoracic, HAC, ECMO ,Vascular, and Cancer patients. We are extremely proud to have been rated ‘outstanding’ in our leadership by the Care Quality Commission in 2017. Your professional development is very important to us and we offer you the opportunity to undertake ILs, ALS, CALS BSC, MSC and PHD. We have a platform for nurse led research which is fully supported by our director of research and development.


Band 6 Sister/Charge nurse rotational

1C,1D and 1E Adult Critical care Units

We are currently recruiting for a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our team on the cardiac adult critical care units . The successful candidate along with their team will rotate through 3 units and experience caring for different patient groups as part of our multi-faceted team.

ACCU 1C specialises in nurse led and fast track recovery for elective and emergency cardiac surgery patients undergoing CABG, valve replacement, dissection repair and grown up congenital heart (GUCH) patients. ACCU on 1C is busy, challenging, and requires nurses that enjoy working in a fast paced and exciting environment. The unit also supports patients who require level 3 on-going critical care interventions in the post-op period.

ACCU 1E specialises in recovery of complex and emergency cardiac surgery patients undergoing CABG, valve replacement, dissection repair and grown up congenital heart (GUCH) patients. ACCU on 1E also specialises in complex aortic vascular, and Mucoplysaccharidosis (MPS) patients who require specialised interventions such as spinal drain management and difficult airway management. ACCU on 1E also supports patients who require level 3 on-going critical care interventions in the post-op period.

ACCU 6A specialises in emergency cardiology patients admitted via our Heart Attack Centre, direct from the community via LAS. 6A is also our designated receiving are for patients requiring Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Ventricular Assisted devices (VAD), and general oncology patients requiring level 3 support from Barts Cancer Centre. It goes without saying that no two days are the same on 6A, with opportunities for exposure to a wide and extensive caseload of ICU patients.

We are extremely proud to have been rated ‘outstanding’ in our leadership by the Care Quality Commission in 2017. Your professional development is very important to us and we offer you the opportunity to undertake ILS, ALS, CALS, ICU Transfer Training, Band 6 forums and airway management days. After extensive experience on 6A there are opportunities to undertake the ECMO/VAD training required to care for these patients. You will be allocated to work within a nursing team managed by a band 7 and have regular team away days.
