As part of our ongoing development, we now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist, who shares our passion for care, to join our dedicated team.

This fantastic development opportunity with have the task of providing direct assessment, support and advocacy to patient and carers dealing with complex neurological conditions and acquired brain injuries.

At Dee View Court, we provide the support people need to optimise their health and wellbeing, maximise their independence and support their emotional and social needs. We are here for people with conditions that get worse over time – such as Huntington’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease – as well as those with conditions resulting from a brain or spinal injury or stroke. Our expert team includes Sue Ryder Nurses, registered mental health nurses, care assistants, physiotherapists and occupational therapists who are specialists in supporting the physical, communicative, cognitive, behavioural and psychological needs of people with neurological conditions. Our focus is on giving every person the help they need to live their life in the way they choose.

About the role:

Reporting to our Head of Care, the Clinical Nurse Specialist will lead the development, management and promotion of the service ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost-effective care, which will be achieved by empowering and facilitating all other professionals to meet the complex care needs of our patients, and their carers by contributing to education and promoting the principles and philosophy of neurological care and rehabilitation.

As Clinical Nurse Specialist, your duties will include:

  • Provide holistic specialist care for patients appropriate to their needs, wishes and culture. This will include clinical assessment, planning care, monitoring progress, requesting appropriate investigations, and acting on the results
  • Communicating with other professionals’ outcomes of assessment and making referrals to other members of the multidisciplinary team as required
  • Work in partnership with patients and carers to enable them to make informed choices and to identify and promote strategies to adapt to life changing and limiting situations
  • Using verbal and written communication and negotiating skills breaking down barriers to understanding with various individuals
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure patient’s needs are met, especially in relation to on-going and continuity of care
  • To promote choice in all aspects of clinical practice reviewing and making suggestions to enhance the patient experience and enabling concerns and complaints to be raised freely by patients and their representatives
  • Ensure care is evidence based and within national and Sue Ryder policies, procedures and professional bodies guidance
  • To promote an organisational culture where staff are empowered to challenge inappropriate behaviour and unsafe practice using appropriate organisational processes via line manager or by using our internal whistle blowing policy
