SISTER/CHARGE NURSE

St Helena Island, South Atlantic

3 years FTC available immediately

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

Part of our multidisciplinary team within the hospital and outpatient’s department, you will contribute to the development of policies and strategies as you implement, adhere to and monitor Directorate guidelines, procedures and protocols. As a change agent promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement, you will review and establish systems, processes and practices. Contributing to budget management you will ensure systems are developed and operational and make sure risk management arrangements are in place. You will maintain records and create a culture of life-long learning and reflective practice. Participating in teaching, you will see that nurses achieve compliance with training requirements, offering supervision, training and mentorship, facilitating CPD and helping with succession planning and up-skilling.

Holding an Adult Nursing Diploma or Degree with substantial recent post-registration experience in an Acute General Hospital, you are a Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register or an equivalent nursing body, with ALS certification or willingness to undertake it. You must have sound knowledge of trends and developments in health care. Your background in A&E or ICU/HDU or AMU/AAU (Acute Medical) is supported by experience in a leadership role (band 6 or above) and participation in audit related activities. Flexible, with well-developed negotiating and interpersonal skills, you have influenced and managed change.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena.  As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

Our Benefits Package Includes:

  • Salary: £35k-£40k pa, depending on experience and qualifications
  • An International Supplement, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information below
