Midwifery Sister ( part time)

Location: The Portland Hospital for Women & Children , Great Portland Street, London

Hours: part time 22.5 hrs pw (long days/nights/weekends)

Salary: Competitive ( dependent on Skills & Experience) + benefits (pension, health cover, flexible benefits and excellent career development)

The Portland Hospital for Women & Children are recruiting for a Midwifery Sister (Band 7)

As the Midwifery Sister you will be responsible and accountable for the provision of High quality care within the Maternity setting providing clinical leadership, direction and support of all staff.

Promoting a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research, evidence based practice and the developmental of additional clinical skills in the speciality.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To demonstrate a consistently high standard of clinical practice at all times in the provision of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. 
  • To provide leadership and clinical expertise within the maternity department. To develop and hold continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation, evaluation of care plans and the settings of standards. 
  • To respect and ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • To provide midwifery advice and information to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to women and their families without supervision, in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate women centred family focused care.   
  • To be responsible for the day to day shift co-ordination of the maternity unit, providing midwifery leadership, guidance, expert clinical advice and managerial skills.
  • To oversee care provided by registered and non-registered maternity staff within their sphere of responsibility.
  • To review ‘work force planning’ and secure adequate cover from temporary staffing if required to ensure staffing levels are maintained to set staffing criteria.   
  •  Demonstrable knowledge and relevant experience practising as a Midwife

Skills & Experience

  • NMC Registered as a Midwife
  • Teaching and mentoring experience with Practice Supervisor Status
  • Basic Adult and Newborn Life Support
  • Safeguarding Level 3 training
  • Competent at cannulation & perineal suturing​
