Job Details

On 1st February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals became part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust – a truly once-in a generation development. Together, we are taking our first steps towards our vision of creating a brand-new centre of excellence, which will be the global leader in the research into and treatment of heart and lung disease in patients from pre-birth to old age. We are developing some exciting plans and we want you to join us – so come and help to change the shape of healthcare for our heart and lung patients world-wide.

Due to our everchanging and evolving critical care service we have several band 5 vacancies. We are currently one of the UKs largest and most experienced cardio-thoracic centres providing care for a variety of complex patients. Since March we have been one of the highest performing cardiac centres in the UK providing urgent/emergency surgery whilst continuing with the transplant programme.

Our ITU consists of 24 level 3 beds and the recovery unit consists of 5 cardiac recovery and 2 thoracic recovery beds. Staff work in both units. We care for a variety of patients with complex healthcare needs providing services such as mechanical support (ECMO, LVAD/Impella), IABP and hemofiltration. We care for patients pre and post heart/lung transplant, cardiac/thoracic surgery and post primary coronary intervention (PCI).

Our new starters are supported by our exceptional practice education team. We aim to provide staff of all grades with the essential knowledge and skills required in our busy, friendly department. New starters will be given a period of supernumerary time.

Successful applicants will be fully supported whilst gaining experience in the care of critically ill patients undergoing a variety of critical care interventions.

Following orientation and completion of step one Clinical competencies, staff will have the opportunity to access university-based post-graduate courses.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals who are keen to develop their critical care nursing skills whilst applying the values associated with the 6Cs of nursing. We welcome newly qualified nurses who previously have had an acute nursing placement.

Staff benefits include: subsidised childcare facilities, occupational pension scheme, personal development and training opportunities, flexible working and subsidised accommodation is available on both sites.

To ensure that our workforce is representative of the population we serve, we welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals have a duty to safeguard all patients and provide additional measures for patients who are less able to protect themselves from harm or abuse. All staff have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of ALL adults, children and young people in the Trust. This including patients, visitors and those using our facilities.
