Research Donors is a modern blood donation facility in east London. From here we collect blood and tissue samples from our volunteer donors, test and process the samples and deliver them to medical researchers in the UK and around the world.

The blood and tissue samples collected and processed by Research Donors are provided to researchers working in laboratories at universities, hospitals, and companies including pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
Research Donors is licensed by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) for the storage of relevant material which has come from a human body for use for a scheduled purpose under Licence Number 12693.

We are a rapidly expanding business and now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join and lead our blood donation nursing team. This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join us and take the service to the next level as we expand.

This is a full-time permanent position working 40 hours per week; Monday to Friday with no weekend or evening requirements.

The Role

The successful candidate will lead our nursing team and participate in both blood and apheresis donations. The main duties of the role will include capacity and demand planning, donor recruitment, apheresis and blood donation procedures, managing the nursing team, development of the service in line with business objectives. You will ensure that the service is of high quality and is run in line with the standard set by the clinic and external regulatory bodies. You will ensure that the practice is based on current evidence, staff competencies and that mandatory training is up to date.

This blood donation service is supported by the Medical Director and you will be an integral part of the clinical governance team and the business senior management team.

Your Clinical Responsibilities

You will lead the blood donation service providing expert knowledge to donors. Part of your role will also involve providing training, support and education to colleagues so they can become competent in apheresis and blood donation procedures and you will do this in accordance with service requirements, quality management, JACIE and Human Tissue Authority guidelines. As a lead for the department you will also provide leadership in clinical practice and act as a resource and role model.

Essential for the Role

  • NMC registration
  • 3yrs post registration experience (2 years for Apheresis/Blood Donation Nurse)
  • Extensive experience in phlebotomy and cannulation
  • Excellent communication skills Team and client-focussed culture

Desirable for the role

  • Apheresis experience Advanced life support accredited Nurse prescriber

Salary: £39,000 p.a. +bonus depending on experience

For this role we would accept 2 years Post Registration experience.
