Chemo Day Unit Senior Staff Nurse

Location: HCA @ UCH, London 

Hours: Full time 37.5 (4 days per week 8-6pm or potentially 9-7pm on occasion) 

Salary: £38,000-£43,386 (Dependent on Skills & Experience) + benefits (pension, health cover, flexible benefits and excellent career development) 

As Senior Staff Nurse for our chemo day care unit, you will be responsible for working in a supporting experienced nursing team to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of specialist care to ensure that patients are cared for in a safe, caring and comfortable environment. This will include meeting their medical, physical and emotional needs by effectively communicating with the patient and their families 

As deputy to the sister/charge nurse the senior staff nurse is instrumental in ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are delivered. To be an advocate for the patient, working within the multidisciplinary team. Day to day smooth running of the unit working together with other clinical areas to ensure safe patient flow. Ensure high levels of professional behaviour are adhered to at all times.

Skills & Experience: 

  • NMC registered Nurse 

  • Experienced/competent in Chemotherapy administration  

  • Post registration experience within haematology or oncology setting or equivalent 

  • Clinical skills in venepuncture, cannulation and the administration of intravenous drugs. 

  • Wide and evidence-based knowledge of systemic anti-cancer treatments e.g. chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy etc and the known and lesser-known side effects of these

The day care unit at UCH is situated on the 5th floor of University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre. The centre specialises mainly in malignant haematology and stem cell transplantation and is one of only a few centres in the UK to have JACIE accreditation for its transplant service.  There is also some Oncology, mainly sarcoma and brain tumours. Patients receive a range of treatments- chemotherapy, immunotherapies, and supportive treatments such as blood transfusions, venesections and bisphosphonates 

Working in partnership with University College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, HCA UK at University College Hospital (HCA at UCH) is a dedicated private facility offering expert care for patients with cancer and blood disorders. Our team of experienced doctors and nurses provide the highest quality of personalised care, at all stages of treatment for our patients. 

Rated ‘Outstanding’ by CQC, we are continually investing in our facilities to make sure that our patients have access to the latest treatments and technology. We offer specialist care for solid tumour and blood cancer and we are a JACIE accredited bone marrow and stem cell transplant centre.
