Job Advert Description
This is an exciting and developing full-time role within South Wales Police and is part of our ongoing commitment to support police officers and staff who are experiencing psychological ill health.
You will carry a caseload and accept referrals where mental health or stress is the presenting issue. You will offer occupational health advice around adjustments and support in the workplace, complete comprehensive reports, and signpost to counselling or other support if appropriate but would not counsel clients. You may already, or could be trained, to trauma debrief and work alongside our Counselling & Trauma Advisors to provide debriefs and psychological screening for high-risk roles as a more proactive element of your role.
There will be a mix of face-to-face assessments, telephone, and on-line advice to a range of individuals including those in roles such as police officers, firearms officers, hostage negotiators, dog handlers, crime scene investigators, and control room operatives. You will also have the confidence to develop, prepare and deliver electronic presentations to all levels of staff throughout South Wales Police.
You will be located within Occupational Health, Safety & Wellbeing in Bridgend although may be expected to travel across the Force’s area and on occasions may be required to work outside normal office hours. The option of home working will be available but attendance at the unit will also be a requirement. Although this role will predominately involve undertaking case management, you may also be needed to undertake clinical work including health screening, surveillance, and vaccinations as resilience cover for other colleagues. You will have the opportunity to facilitate change in the role and will work closely with the nurse manager to be proactive and deliver an effective Occupational Health Service within South Wales Police.
This post is not suitable for job share/part time workers due to exigencies of the business.
Please be aware that if your current post is within the Public Service Centre, if you were employed after 1st February 2017 you must have completed 2 years’ tenured service before applying for any other roles.
If you are currently involved in an ongoing PSD Investigation you are not eligible to apply for this role.
