Practice Development Nurse

PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT NURSE

St Helena Island, South Atlantic

3 years FTC available immediately

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.

Looking for a Practice Development Nurse role with a difference?  This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, self-motivated individual who is passionate about learning, development, improvement and patient centred care.

In this vital role you will support practice development across all nursing roles, providing a progressive learning environment for all grades of nursing staff.  You will build on and develop strategies to support classroom and clinical education, and co-ordinate educational activities and assessments of learning, acting as a role model for best practice.

Adhering to NMC guidelines, you will be part of a multi-professional, inter-disciplinary team, encouraging healthcare professionals in the promotion and maintenance of an effective learning environment. Your advice will be valued in relation to educational opportunities, helping nurses with their personal development plans and appraisal objectives. You should support mentors and preceptors so that learning opportunities are effectively utilised.

You will be integral to the development of on-island nurses, supporting senior nursing colleagues in putting in place long-term sustainability and succession plans.

You will need to be an experienced practice development nurse with a broad range of skills, happy to operate in very remote and challenging conditions, showcasing your adaptability and experience across varied situations, including taking charge of patient care if required.

Registered with the NMC or an equivalent nursing body, you have significant post-registration experience in an Acute General Hospital setting. You also have a recognised mentorship qualification plus ALS certification; or be prepared to undertake it. You will have held a development, teaching or leadership role in an NHS organisation, at a minimum of Band 6 or above. Having sound knowledge of health and social care trends, you are conversant with current professional nursing and midwifery issues.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena.  As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

Our Benefits Package Includes:

  • Salary: £35k-£40k pa, depending on experience and qualifications
  • An International Supplement, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information below
  • Relocation Allowances, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information below
