About the role and our team

Join our team on the Acute Medical Unit at Noble's Hospital on the Isle of Man!

The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is a 20-bedded unit which acts as the main point of referral, assessment and admission of patients to the Medical Division. It functions as the interface between primary care or the Emergency Department and acute assessment and care in the Medical Division.

The AMU operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and is the receiving area for patients requiring acute N.I.V treatment. The Unit won the first Manx Care Award for demonstrating excellent care and standards and being professional ambassadors of the Manx Care values.

We also operate our own Ambulatory Emergency Clinic (AEC), which you will have the opportunity to step into as part of your development.

The AEC operates Monday to Friday and will see patients referred for care and treatment which can reduce length of hospital stay or prevent admission into hospital. The clinic provides treatment such as blood transfusions, lumbar punctures, ordering and reviewing scans, ascitic drains and monitoring of acute treatments. The clinic also operates the Anti-viral service where covid positive patients are provided with vital treatment on an outpatient basis.

The unit is managed by a Senior Sister with support from Sisters and Charge Nurses, alongside a highly skilled team of Registered Nurses and Health Care Assistants who are responsible for providing high standards of care, meeting specific patient needs and promoting safety and recovery.

If you’re looking for an opportunity where you can gain diverse experience of acute medical problems then this could be the role for you!
