Priory Hospital Barnt Green is part of the Healthcare Division of Priory Group and has 32 beds over three wards varying from Female PICU, Acute ward and a Private ward.

The aim at Priory Hospital Barnt Green is to provide a person centred approach and therapeutic environment, which promotes collaborative care planning to optimise treatment goals. Right from the point of admission to our acute services, our aim is to support patients to be discharged safely back into the community where they can continue to progress towards recovery in a less restrictive environment.
This will be achieved by:

Thorough assessment of individuals needs throughout admission
Person centred collaborative treatment plans
A range of interventions available from a diverse MDT
Being cared for in the least restrictive environment
The acute wards on site provides patients with excellent space and facilities, including en-suite bedrooms and living spaces furnished with activity equipment. The private ward particularly has state of the art facilities. The private ward, has individual and group sessional therapy rooms. The hospital is set in beautiful surroundings on the outskirts of Birmingham in the area of Lickey Hills.


The clinical team at the hospital encourage full involvement of the service user, their family and external professionals throughout their stay. They are invited to attend Ward Reviews and CPA meetings to ensure clear communication throughout the care pathway in order to promote individuals' recovery and facilitate discharge.


In order to maximise recovery, interventions offered include a wide range of therapeutic approaches, combining psychiatric and cognitive behavioural perspectives with occupational therapy, psychology, leisure and recreational activity.

The Job Opportunity
A unique opportunity to work on wards where extensive medical support is offered to the patients. You will work alongside a Consultant Psychiatrist. As a Specialty Doctor you will work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist to provide continuous medical cover on a daily basis to the patients on the ward.


Alongside the Consultant, you will care for patients referred to the unit from local NHS trusts and private patients who come through Insurance providers and self-funding patients. During working hours, you will be responsible for clerking in new patients and reviewing their mental/physical state throughout the working week.


Assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under Consultant supervision of inpatients. Each patient must be interviewed and reassessed at a frequency appropriate to their individual clinical needs and sufficient to monitor changes and make timely modifications to the treatment plan. Good communication with ward staff, including morning handovers daily is an important part of the role.


The successful candidate will also participate in developing treatment plans and programmes as appropriate to ensure good medical practice within the MDT settings.


General working hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 - 17:00, with no on-call responsibilities.
There is RMO cover 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They will assist with physical health care, clerk in new admissions as well as manage patient's physical health needs outside of working hours.

Requirements:

Full and Valid GMC registration
12 months' adult psychiatry experience (Preferred)
Relevant experience within a similar setting (preferred)
Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (preferred)
Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) and Code of Practice along with Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity (Preferred)
The ability to interview, assess and treat patients and write clear comprehensive medical notes
Proven record of CPD
A positive attitude and commitment to change, improvement and quality
Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
Evidence of post registration continuing professional development
